Laboratorio terapia cellulare "Stefano Verri" Azienda Ospedaliera San Gerardo di Monza

The Laboratory of Cell Therapy “Stefano Verri” (Azienda Ospedaliera San Gerardo di Monza), was opened in 2003 at Monza St Gerardo Hospital, and dedicated to Stefano after he lost his fight against cancer.

Leukaemias and lymphomas are among the most common cancers affecting children. While effective, modern chemotherapy and bone-marrow transplantation fails to cure a significant minority of patients. Further, chemotherapy and bone marrow transplantation result in significant immediate and long-term toxicity.

Since a while in the Lab of Cell Therapy “Stefano Verri”, has been developing alternatives therapies for these patients, based on the use of cells as drugs in collaboration also with other institutions within Europe.

The Lab of Cell Therapy “Stefano Verri” is fully authorized by the Italian Drug Agency (AIFA) in strict compliance with international regulatory standards for the manufacture of cell products.

The “Italian National Health Institute” validated several protocols applied in this lab that aim to manipulate immunosystem cells in order to reduce post-transplant death. Other protocols are instead used to re-engineer patients' immune system into an effective and safe treatment for childhood leukemia and lymphoma. This work will be carried out by a network of EU-based partners with a broad experience in the field of paediatric haematology and oncology, immunology, cell and gene therapies.

This Lab is developing also several protocols for cardiac and bone degenerative diseases.

In this contest BioRep woks as support inside or outside Europe, for the transfering and monitoring of the transplant material from the donor to the receiver. The shipment is arranged with dedicated courier able to offer a GXP full compliance logistic service with special equipment to keep the temperature.

The Lab of Cell Therapy “Stefano Verri” aims to become a real stem cell factory on large scale that involves all the other Italian institutions, keeping reasonable costs just for the maintenance of the structure and manpower.
